    Shotts is a town in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. As of the 2001 census, the population was 8,235. It was reputedly named after the legendary giant 'Bertram de Shotts'. Shotts was known for its mining. In the 1960s there were 22 coal mines in Shotts, but all are now closed
