It lies 8 miles 13 km eastsoutheast of Kilmarnock and 11 miles 18 km northeast of Ayr by the Glasgow and SouthWestern railway. It is situated on a gentle slope about 1 mile 2 km from the River Ayr, which flows through the south of the parish of Mauchline.
