    Ballantrae is a community in South Ayrshire, Scotland. The name probably comes from the Scottish Gaelic 'Baile na Trghad', meaning the 'town by the beach'. It is best known for being the fictional setting of 'The Master of Ballantrae' by Robert Louis Stevenson.
